Namecheap Website Builder (Site Maker) Review 2026: Flat, Cheap, Thin

The Namecheap website builder, sold as Site Maker, is cheap and flat: $3.88 a month or $38.88 a year for the Personal plan, with no lower teaser rate and no higher renewal printed beside it. It is also the thinnest builder on our shelf, it cannot run a shop, and it publishes only to domains registered at Namecheap. Those prices come from Namecheap's own Site Maker page, read through a US connection on 9 October 2026.

It suits someone who wants a small personal or business site, or a one-page link hub, and who already keeps domains at Namecheap. It does not suit anyone who wants to sell, anyone whose domain lives at another registrar and should stay there, or anyone who expects to grow into a larger site.

Namecheap has more than one website builder

Searches for 'namecheap website builder' land on two different things. The product Namecheap promotes is Site Maker: a standalone subscription with its own editor and hosting, sold in three plans and still labelled beta on its product page. Separately, Namecheap's shared hosting plans carry a site builder reached through cPanel, which is part of the hosting plan rather than a Site Maker subscription.

This review covers Site Maker, the one with a published price list. We could not read Namecheap's current hosting prices: its hosting pages blocked our US reader on 9 October 2026, so we do not price the cPanel route here. Site Maker plans: Personal, Business and Simple Links

Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial and can then be billed monthly or yearly. Read on 9 October 2026:

All three include one hosted website, SSL, unlimited visitors, simple analytics and round-the-clock support. Monthly plans come with a placeholder address; the yearly listing adds a free .online, .site or .xyz domain. A .com is not part of that offer, and as the next sections explain, any domain you use must be registered at Namecheap.

Yearly billing saves about 16% on Personal ($38.88 against $46.56 for twelve monthly payments) and the same on Business ($88.88 against $106.56). On a product this cheap the saving is small in dollars, but there is no reason to pay monthly if you plan to keep the site.

The three-year math: flat is a feature

Most bundles on this shelf price in two stages, a teaser and a renewal. Site Maker's page prints one price per billing period, with no struck-through list price and no 'then' line. On those printed figures, three years of Personal cost $116.64 paid yearly or $139.68 paid monthly. Business costs $266.64 yearly or $319.68 monthly.

Two points stand out. Site Maker Personal on yearly billing is the cheapest three-year route to a real builder site that we track. And Business, at $266.64, costs well over the price of Hostinger Premium's four prepaid years. If you need the Business features, compare it with a stronger builder before you commit.

One caution on 'flat'. Namecheap prints no renewal increase, and we found no teaser structure, but subscription prices can change at any renewal. Check the figure in your account's subscription list before each annual payment.

The thin part: no shop, Namecheap domains only

Two restrictions define Site Maker more than any feature does. First, it cannot sell. Namecheap's FAQ says Site Maker is for personal websites and cannot be used for ecommerce, and its help article on the plans (updated 16 February 2026) says Business Site Maker is not suitable for e-commerce either. There is no payment integration to switch on.

Second, the domain must be a Namecheap one. The same help article states that only Namecheap domains are currently supported. When you publish, Site Maker lists the domains in your Namecheap account and sets the DNS records for you. If your domain sits at another registrar, you either transfer it to Namecheap, use a new domain, or choose another builder.

Beyond those two, the kit is modest: preset themes on Personal, more control over branding on Business, no app market and no plugin route. A multi-page site is fine; a large or fast-growing one will hit the walls quickly.

Site not publishing? The common causes

Most 'Namecheap website builder not publishing' problems trace back to one of the documented rules above:

1. You are not signed in. Namecheap's FAQ says you must be logged in to your Namecheap account to publish. Sign in, open the site in the Site Maker app and press publish again.
2. The domain is not in your Namecheap account. Site Maker only offers domains registered at Namecheap. A domain at another registrar will not appear in the publish list until it is transferred.
3. The domain uses custom nameservers. Namecheap's help article says Site Maker sets its host records automatically only for domains on Namecheap's BasicDNS or PremiumDNS. With custom nameservers you add them by hand: an A record for @ pointing to 54.203.228.38, and a CNAME record for www pointing to dns.visual.com.
4. The records were changed later. If you or another service edited those A and CNAME records, the site disconnects. Publishing again from Site Maker, or restoring the two records, reconnects it.
5. Payment went through but publishing stopped. After you pay, Site Maker asks you to select the domain a second time to connect it to hosting. Skip that step and the site stays offline.
6. You edited but did not republish. Changes go live only when you click publish; saving in the editor is not enough.

Which Namecheap builder to buy

Not included: an exit

Site Maker is hosted only by Namecheap, and Namecheap documents no export. Its FAQ explains how to disconnect a domain (change the records, or delete the site, which also cancels the subscription), not how to take the site with you. Assume leaving means rebuilding. At these prices, that is a small loss: a site that cost about a hundred dollars over three years, not a four-figure one.

Who it genuinely serves

The buyer this box fits is specific and real: someone who wants a small site or a link page, keeps domains at Namecheap already, and values a predictable line item over every missing feature listed above. For that person, Site Maker is the correctly sized purchase, and the flat price means it can be set and forgotten, which is the habit that hurts buyers almost everywhere else on this shelf.

Everyone else should spend a little more for a lot more. Hostinger's 48-month Premium plan costs $26.88 more than three years of Site Maker Personal and covers a fourth year, with a stronger editor and a path to a store. Verdict: honest label, small box

Site Maker takes fifth place on our ranked builder and hosting bundles shelf, a placing that reads harsher than it is. The pricing conduct is the best in the category; the product is the least of it. Both facts belong on the same label.
